Link Building Strategies for 2016

Link building is a controversial topic in SEO. On one side of the fence, you have those who think it's useless and on the other side are people who think it's still an important aspect of a well-rounded SEO strategy. You may be tempted to leave link building out of your SEO strategy because some SEO experts think it's no longer worth the effort. However, these four link building facts will have you reconsidering it as part of your SEO strategy:

1. Link Building Algorithm

One of the goals of Google's Penguin update was to put an end to links generated through unnatural methods, such as automation and buying links. Since then, Google has continued to refine Penguin in order to improve its ability to detect unnatural links and punish those who try cheating their search algorithm. As a result of the crackdown, many people have started to simply ignore link building either out of fear of being slapped by Google or thinking that there's no point in having a link building strategy anymore. Google now evaluates the quality of a link based on its relevance, value, where it's posted, and how it's posted. This just means it takes more effort to acquire links that are high quality. 2. Focus on long-tail keywords

In Google’s ranking algorithm, keywords goes a long way in determining whether you rank for a keywork or not. You might be wondering why focus on long tail keywords. There are a few reasons to focus on long tail keywords when creating articles, pages, etc.

  • They're easier to rank for
  • They require less resources
  • Less people ranking for them

This helps when you're starting out or continuing to grow your blog, presence, etc. The less time it takes to rank for a keyword over time the more you have, it builds up. The good news is that there are several tools that can help you search for long tail keyworks. Simply follow these steps:

a).   First step: Go to Lsigraph.com and input your primary keyword (e.g., cheap airline tickets). Solve the captcha, then click the “Generate” Button:

b).   Second step: Select keywords from the list. Simply locate the keywords that’ll be ideal for your content. Then use them.

On-page keyword optimization all boils down to researching, choosing and integrating keywords that you can easily rank for. You don’t want to compete with top brands with higher and stronger domain authority.

You must also write posts that are good enough for a big name to link to. However, simply writing excellent content isn't enough. You must actively seek backlinks for your website rather than leave it to hope or luck.

Focus on long tail keywords, because they are easier to rank, require less resources, and get traffic easier. It's not about ranking for the most popular, they require the most resources that the general base can't afford. And lastly, focus on some link building tools. They keep you in the loop on what works and what trends people are searching for.

    Really nice article. As you mentioned, it all comes down to links and website authority. According to my latest research, most experts believe that high quality links and quality content will remain the most important factors for good positioning. Personally, I am very much interested in RankBrain and real time updates. I feel that they will change the game in practice.
