Introducing the new premiumwd: trinity

by chris rodriguez on December 29, 2014

Since our last update, there has been a lot of changes. This is the third revision and major update we have overhauled here at premiumwd, and it makes since to call our latest update Trinity. We have decided to give our website a new look and separate our documentation and forum to different sub-sites. We did this for different reasons, the main reasons were for speed, optimization, and meta robots. It will be easier to search content, more intuitive navigation system, and faster overall experience when viewing our content.

Main Website

Our main website used to hold everything in one place. This made it very bulky and slow. The experience was full of lots of different parts that made it very inefficient to work with and ultimately wasn't good for our bottom line. The changes we made were:

  • Optimize our scripts, and style-sheets.
  • Optimize our database, and plugins.
  • Change our navigation and design towards mobile first ideology.
  • Organized our products in a more aesthetic and effective organization style.
  • Total redesign of the whole website from ground-up.
  • New blog design, using some parts from our latest theme Adomo.

This was a smart move for the whole team in developing a more cross-device platform for users to use when logging in and accessing our products and private information.

Documentation

Now we used to have all our documentation all in one place for sake of ease and logging into one place to get everything. This was starting to be one giant mess to navigate and loads of different things to consider. Moving all our documentation, videos, etc. to a sub-site was the next best play. Moving it to a sub-site and redesigning it was fun and looks great. There is a lot of upside when separating content instead of having it all in one place. For this sub-site we did the following:

  • Optimize our scripts, and style-sheets.
  • Optimize our database, and plugins.
  • Change our navigation and design towards mobile first ideology.
  • Easy to navigate documentation style with a more intuitive search engine built inside.
  • Documentation pages are easier to navigate and read content.
  • Total redesign of the whole website from ground-up.
  • Responsive design that highlights and maintains a clear, legible, user experience.

Forum

Now we have been through this different times, we decided to outsource it to a third party using Zendesk. Then decided it was a mess because the obtrusive JavaScript we had to employ and the ineffective user schema, which made designing and creating a good user experience hard. Then we decided to use a forum in-house which was a great idea, but it was conflicting with other plugins and hard to tell what was messing it up. So putting this on it's own database was the smartest play. We did the following to this forum to make it work for our customers.

  • Optimize our scripts, and style-sheets.
  • Optimize our database, and plugins.
  • Change our navigation and design towards mobile first ideology.
  • Easy to navigate documentation style with a more intuitive search engine built inside
  • Forum questions easier to navigate, and comment on.
  • Be able to mention other people with @ and a more exclusive conversation style for our accounts.
  • Be able to see your conversations, questions and user information in a more informative way.
  • Total redesign of the whole website from ground-up.
  • Responsive design that highlights and maintains a clear, legible, user experience.

This has been a great deal and still have more to do. But releasing this now before the new year made the most sense. We are happy to be giving this new look and feel for everyone to experience, hope you enjoy.
