Top 9 WordPress Plugins For Your Site

by chris rodriguez on March 5, 2016

WordPress (WP) has become one of the most successful free content management services (CMS) yet to be developed, with business sites and personal bloggers being the majority share of users. In just eleven short years, the WordPress community has grown to over 76.5 million bloggers in over 137 different languages with over 50 new websites added daily.

Because WP is an open source software platform, developers all over the world are continually contributing applications to increase productivity and functionality. These applications are available in the form of free themes and plugins created for the WP community without fees. Premium plugins are available for a fee and have the added benefit of developer support and additional functionality.

In building your new WP website, you can expect to find many sophisticated, vibrant, free themes to fit any website needs from blogging, business, e-commerce, graphic portfolios and news or magazine publishing. This list is the definitive set of basic free wordpress plugins needed to take your chosen themed website to the next level with behind the scenes functionality that will expand the versatility of your WP website.

Wordfence Security

The Wordfence WordPress security plugin provides free enterprise-class WordPress security, protecting your website from hacks and malware. This is probably the reason I choose this as the first pick in my list due to the fact that most sites aren't protected and vulnerable. WordPress by itself does a good job but there are some tricks people can get your username without you knowing it, this plugin helps with most vulnerabilities.

Google XML Sitemaps

This plugin will generate a special XML sitemap which will help search engines to better index your site to search engines. Getting this right is an important part of gaining visibility and traffic. You first have to have the right sitemap for search engines to crawl your site properly. This is another highly recommended plugin on the list.

Yoast SEO

a must have for all sites seeking greater search engine optimization. Yoast will help you write a better website with SEO friendly titles; page and posts keyword content analysis feature for greater search engine visibility; an SEO value page will rank your site from poor to good based on Google Webmaster rules; and will show you the Google search snippet when writing your meta information.

Contact Form 7

is a multi-functional plugin that kicks the simple contact form to the side and allows you to display directions, phone numbers, contact emails, business hours, maps and a scheduling calendar. The different elements can be arranged in any configuration providing a simple solution for creating a professional contact page.

WooCommerce

this is a powerful, extendable eCommerce plugin that helps you sell anything. If you even consider starting out a ecommerce website, this is one of my most highly recommended plugins because of the customization and flexibility which allows you to have a scalable and powerful platform to sell your products, services, etc.

WP Fastest Cache

depending on your site, caching is something that isn't really known to most people starting out their site. Caching is saving files that is compressed on your server to be viewed when users see your site. Instead of downloading a fresh copy of your site files each time, this saves time and makes your website faster.

Jetpack

is a plugin with multiple features that give it a must of my list. It contains over 28 features from site monitoring to image compressing, insights / analytics, social share, etc. This plugin provides a lot of features its like 28 plugins in one, its definitely something to check out.

Google Analytics

if you want some more descriptive analytics for your site to show on your WordPress Dashboard. Google Analytics reports is probably the right plugin for you. Inserts the latest Google Analytics tracking code in your pages without you needing to know any code, simple.

Shortcodes Ultimate

last but not least is for anyone that needs a plugin with a ton of shortcodes. Shortcodes allow you have a piece of functionality without knowing any code. This is my last recommended plugin for the reason that everyone needs shortcodes when customizing a site and is the top reasons people get a theme, check it out.

Most plugins are pretty simple to install. Once you add the plugin to your file directory, just activate it from your WP administration page and the software will self-install.
